METALLICA: Photos From 'St. Anger' Video Shoot Posted Online
May 1, 2003METALLICA's official web site, www.metallica.com, has posted photos taken during the band's video shoot for the title track to their upcoming album, "St. Anger". Check them out at this location. As previously reported, the clip was filmed Wednesday (April 30) at San Quentin State Prison, California and was directed by the Malloy Brothers, who have previously worked with the FOO FIGHTERS and 311, among others. "The video was shot with the band performing at various locations throughout the compound," reads a report on the site. "From outside, during the prisoners lunch break, to inside the cell block. This video was truly unique... everyone involved were authentic inmates & security guards. One of the main guards, that worked there for over 22 years, explained that no one has EVER done anything like what METALLICA did here [yesterday]. He further explained that when he informed the inmates about the upcoming event, the response was overwhelming. He also stated that the feeling is that music is something that everyone from guards to inmates have in common and feel very passionate about. At the end of the night, when the band were on their way home James, looking very emotional, says to the other guys — 'This was the best one ever...wow'."
In exchange for using the prison grounds to film the video, METALLICA will perform an hour-long set for the inmates on Thursday (May 1).
METALLICA's "St. Anger" is due on June 10 through Elektra Records.
